Youth Counseling for Kids Who are Hurting

As a parent, it is hard to watch your child struggle. You want what is best for them in school, at home and with their friends.

There are times when you think you have done everything possible and yet nothing improves. The grades are still slipping, the fights still happen, and your child just isn’t developing the same social skills as their peers. s boy back to mom

I offer therapy for children and teens the areas of Anger, Anxiety, Academic Underachievement, Behavioral Issues, ADHD, and Asperger’s Syndrome/HFA. At Family Renewal Center, it is understood that a child’s behavioral issues are displays of inner feelings that the child struggles to express in a positive manner

Children with ADHD or Asperger’s Syndrome/High Functioning Autism (HFA) communicate and express themselves differently than most children their age. I can help your child find new and different ways of expressing themselves, and tools to help regulate their emotions.

Even though the child is the client, I frequently have a parent included in the session to help rebuild the relationship.

Youth Counseling for Anger, Anxiety, ADHD, and Asperger’s Syndrome/High Functioning Autism (HFA)

It Doesn’t Have to Be this Hard

Is your child’s behavior the focus of your family? Is your child angry, have anxiety, ADHD or Asperger’s Syndrome? Is your only conversation with your partner about the latest problem your child was involved in at school or in the neighborhood? Have you stopped spending time with your child because they exhaust you? Do teachers, school counselors, or neighbors continually give you parenting advice? Are you tired of the yelling, threatening, and living in a house filled with tension? You may be feeling stuck and don’t believe that things can change. You’ve realized that the behavior has become worse, not better. You have tried time outs, reward charts, removal of favorite items, and spanking, but the behavior doesn’t improve.

Anger Stems from a Source.

All anger has a starting source. Discovering the source gives you the starting point of change. However, children don’t have the vocabulary to express what is happening inside them. With help, they can learn the emotional language they need to explain what they are thinking, feeling, and needing in a more productive manner. Exploring the situation allows both the child and the parent the opportunity to understand what is happening.

ADHD & Asperger’s Syndrome/High Functioning Autism (HFA) Are Neurologically Based.

Children with ADHD or Asperger’s Syndrome/ (HFA) are not acting out. Their brain functions differently than the rest of the world. ADHD children have more severe and more occurrences of inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity, as compared to an average child their age. An Asperger’s Syndrome/HFA child doesn’t naturally develop social skills, may have an irregular speech pattern, may be physically awkward, and tends to have very limited interests which they may talk about non-stop.

You Can Create a Better Future.

The future is ready for you to create. While understanding the source of the situation starts the change, part of the therapeutic process is for you to develop tools to help encourage and guide your child as they mature. You can finally imagine a family life where you spend enjoyable time with your child, you and your partner start discussing things other than your child’s behavior, and where you dream of an brighter future.
